AMDT and SNV to develop the Beans value chain in Rukwa and Songwe regions

Agenda: Building Inclusive Businesses in Beans 

AMDT and SNV – Netherlands Development Organization in Tanzania have signed a partnership on developing the beans value chain in Rukwa and Songwe regions in the southern highlands zone. The over half a billion TZS contract (TZS 576 million) will involve strengthening inclusive businesses in the agricultural sector, one of the most important for nutrition and food security for the largest country in East Africa.

The deal was signed at AMDTs’ Offices in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania paving way for collaboration between the two parties at a time when the country is investing massively in the transformation of its agricultural economy. SNV Tanzania has worked in the Beans value chain before in Mbeya region, in the southern highlands, popularly known as the Food Basket of Tanzania.

Among key foci areas, this partnership will facilitate the production and distribution of improved Beans varieties seeds. The intervention will massively improve the access to improved Beans seeds to farmers, particularly smallholder producers. Also, market linkages will be created to accelerate growth in the value chain’s agribusinesses.
