Agenda: Linking organic and conventional farmers to markets and improved sunflower value chain
AMDT has signed a contract to facilitate Agricultural Development Denmark Asia (ADDA) in implementing a sunflower value chain development initiative that will cover Dodoma region. The USD 200,000 grant will involve collaborations with private sector actors and public sector institutions in improving several market systems in the sunflower agricultural subsector.
The project will, among other things, 1) facilitate the access and distribution of quality sunflower seeds, 2) enhance pro-poor contractual agreements in production, 3) support Women and Youth sunflower processors and 4) improve the provision of rural advisory services to smallholder farmers as well as 5) facilitate farmers’ access to finance. ADDA has worked with AMDT before in the sunflower value chain.
During the brief contract signing event at AMDT offices in Dar es Salaam, the CEO of AMDT Mr Charles Ogutu underscored the need for prudent utilization of the grant for intended purpose of transforming the lives of thousands of sunflower farmers, processors and their livelihoods. “It is imperative that we work together in managing this resource for maximum efficacy in the project delivery”.
On his part, ADDA’s Head and Project Leader Mr Bjarne Christensen called for more and close collaboration between both parties for the benefit of the targeted last mile beneficiaries. “We need to work together, to support each other in technical areas and to always be on the same page. This will ensure good results for the project”.
This project will run up to the year 2023.
